Toonspeak Young People's Theatre
Toonspeak has been delivering Arts Award projects since 2011, one of the first active centres in Scotland.
So far they have completed 4 Bronze projects, Scotland's first Explore project and are working with young people on their Silver and Gold Awards. Rachel Aisling Smith, Toonspeak's Creative Learning Director told us: It's great if you've got the resources to run a distinct Bronze project - we have done ours over October Week in the past, with some lead in sessions before, and some sessions after to finish off the portfolios. It's a nice little package but obviously needs it's own funding. It's also more than possible to do it in the background of other projects, capturing evidence and reflections as young people participate in a range of projects. This is a way forward for us, to embed the process into all our projects. Our Silver and Gold processes were hampered by young people just being too busy with school and other commitments, some of which are creative. We now want to work in a way where all those creative activities can go towards their award and the only distinct part is their Unit 2 leadership project. You can watch an amazing wee film about one of Toonspeak's Bronze projects here and a film about some young people working on Silver here. Also, there's a film about the first Scottish Explore project here. |
